Personal Growth Plan
Preservice Teacher Candidate Professional Growth Plan and Reflection
Candidate: Mikayla Webster Course: Term and Year:
As a faculty member (candidate) in this school (course), you will complete three Professional Growth Plans (PGPs) this term to submit to the principal (Dr. Suk).
The initial PGP will allow you to define three outcomes that you seek to accomplish during the term. You should set one outcome for each of three areas: engagement (participation, attendance, timeliness), assessment (preparation, artifacts/work samples, self and peer evaluation and support), and authentic learning (service learning or field experience). A strong outcome is specific and can be measured. For example, “I will be on time for most of my classes this term; I will not be late to classes more than three times all term.” Then, you will explain the actions that you will take to ensure that you achieve this outcome. For example, “I will set two alarms on my phone, one for 7 am and one for 7:30 am, on the days that I have morning classes so that I have enough time to complete my morning routine, drive to campus, find a parking spot, and get to class before it starts.” Finally, you will provide a rationale, or a reason, for why each of these outcomes is important to you and your overall success. Explain why you chose these three goals as the primary focus for your professional growth this term. Be as personal and as detailed as necessary.
The interim PGP will allow you to reflect on your progress toward the three outcomes that you set forth in the PGP above. Name which of the outcomes you are meeting, which you are exceeding, and/or which you still need to develop. Next, explain why you rated yourself as you did for each of the outcomes. Finally, revise or edit your original plan of action to ensure that you are successful with the outcome (s) for the remainder of the term, AND/OR explain why you will keep the current plan of action that you set forth for the outcome (s), AND/OR completely change the outcome (s) that you want to pursue for the second half of the term, and be sure to outline a plan of action to achieve each new outcome. Please be reminded that you should still have one outcome for each of the three areas noted above: engagement, assessment, and authentic learning.
The final PGP will allow you to reflect on your progress toward the outcomes that you set forth in the PGP above. Name which of the outcomes you met, which you exceeded, and/or which you still need to develop. Next, explain why you rated yourself as you did for each of the outcomes. Then, respond to the following questions:
- What are you most proud of in regard to the outcomes you expected to achieve this term? Why?
- What are you least proud of in regard to the outcomes you expected to achieve this term? Why?
- Which actions, if any, do you plan to continue moving forth? Why?
- Which actions, if any, do you plan to discontinue moving forth? Why?
- Do you think your progress toward these outcomes helped or hindered your path toward becoming a professional educator? Why?
- If you were the principal of this school, how would you change this PGP experience for your faculty members?
- When you become a professional educator, you will complete annual PGPs for yourself and set SLOs (student learning outcomes) for your students. Do you see the value in having students develop their own SLOs? Why?
Initial PGP Date and Response:

Growth plan stage 1:
Outcomes I’d like to achieve per category:
Outside of classes: I have begun taking medication to improve concentration. This will overall affect each category and bring me closer to being more diligent.
(Engagement) Class time: Arrivals and tardies: I will begin leaving the house ten to fifteen minutes earlier to ensure that I make it on time to classes.
I feel like this is important because tardies are one of the things I have consistently struggled with the most as I feel I am never truly ready when I leave the house- despite this I have begun making a routine out of leaving 10 to 15 minutes earlier than I have previously done to ensure I do not have repeat late arrivals. It is not professional to show up late often and does not reflect well on my character.
(Authentic Learning) Homework: I have begun carving out specific days of the week for class assignments. For example- I have a drama class that requires film viewing - this will need an allotted 2 hours per film viewing and another hour to write a reflection/response post. I have allotted Tuesdays for my Government and Politics class to ensure I have my required work before the next class period. Field Service: Wednesdays from 11am-1pm I will be working closely with my teacher mentor. I will write my reflections during and after the training sessions.
I think it's important to carve out days to focus to ensure that I am not multitasking assignments and therefore not giving them the quality time and attention that they need.
(Assessment) An agenda: I have come to understand that I have difficulty with keeping track of assignments and responsibilities just by mental tracking. I have begun to utilize an agenda to further organize my tasks.
I think this has value in ensuring that I am not missing assignments, having unnecessary confusion. As shown time and again, I do have difficulty remembering and keeping track of dates, times, and due dates.
I think being "scatterbrained", uncoordinated, so to speak, has been my greatest hindrance in achieving academic success. I think working through these fundamentals will help me become more workforce ready.
Interim PGP Date and Response:
3/21/25
Engagement - Exceeding goals. I have made an active effort to be on time for class. I have begun leaving the house earlier than I have the previous semesters I have attended RVCC classes. I have also minimized absences.
I rated myself exceedingly as I have to my knowledge no tardies on my record and have made it routine to leave earlier to be on time. This area is where I have improved the most I believe.
Authentic Learning - Meeting. I do have days dedicated to specific classes. This seems to have been working out well so far.
I am not struggling with meeting deadlines for assignments. I am able to focus on classes by having the required work done beforehand.
Assessment - Meeting. I have organizational tools that I use to keep track. I utilize a calendar.
As mentioned above, I am not having difficulty with turning in assignments on time. I keep a schedule for when to work on which class. I feel I am doing better with organization and am more “on track” than at the beginning of the semester.
Engagement: I am satisfied with the results here so far and will continue with this current plan. I am exceeding these expectations.
Authentic learning: I feel that it is important most to change my plan to include that I am submitting work well ahead of deadlines. I think that changing my plan to include submitting assignments well ahead of the due date.
Assessment: I have begun utilizing a calendar and sticky notes. I aim to continue to have no tardiness in the coming half of the semester.
Final PGP Date and Response:
5/7/25
Engagement - Exceeded. I am most proud in this regard. I feel I have made significant strides in punctuality even though I still am “in progress” sometimes. I used to arrive previously to classes 10-15 minutes late regularly but this semester I would wager I have a night and day difference with my arrival times. I have made my best attempts at coming into class despite days where I felt it would be better to stay home. I did arrive quite late to class one day because of this. I wanted to make the effort to come in regardless even if my late arrival had marked me absent for that day. The only lingering punctuality issues I think I had were in regards to the student learning program. This was mostly because my cooperative teachers class began at 11:12 and I was incorrectly completely sure that it started at 11:15 for several weeks. This was because I had never seen a class start time that was not ending in 5 or 0.
Authentic learning - Still learning/in progress - This is where I am least proud. I feel I used to be extremely on top of assignment submissions. I feel I have slipped a bit with turning in assignments on time. This is something I feel I have moved backwards on a bit. I think this is because I feel incredibly overwhelmed especially around critical points of the semester where projects and exams are due. Sometimes I feel I have to triage assignments based on their weight or how well I am doing in a class and if I can afford to miss an assignment because another project takes precedence.
Assessment - Met - I am more keenly aware of dates and what needs to be done now at the end of the semester. I have missed a couple assignment dates as mentioned previously but other than that I feel more organized in general than I have in previous semesters.
- I will continue to utilize organizational tools going forward such as more physical media. I also have begun using more agenda based tools such as a physical agenda and markers on my computer calendar that remind me when due dates are coming up.
- There is no reason for me to discontinue anything that I am currently doing in regards to attempts at moving forward.
- In a way I feel that I am moving forward but also feel discouraged by slipping on staying ahead of assignments.
- If I were the principal I would hold check-ins around when the midterm PGPs are submitted to see how the class is doing just specifically because the field experience does take quite a bit of time to complete.
- I see the value in student learning outcomes. Having to take a statement of responsibility essentially instills a sense of seriousness that makes me want to work harder. I believe it is also important to have clear objectives and goals.
