What will the TEACHER do/provide to assist interaction with language/vocabulary?Repetition of key words and phrases. Question and feedback with students during instruction. Provide students with guidance and direction when they use words incorrectly. Give students praise and recognition when they are successful. Keywords will be written on white board. Have students veto or pass supposed classroom rules.

Instructional Core Sequence Explore Explain ElaborateEngage - A hook into a short video on the three branches of government. The video will be paused at key points so students can answer the questions from the video, i.e, “Who is the leader of the executive branch?”. Explore - Have students discuss and ask questions as a class in response to the video. Explain - have students explain their understanding of government. Have them discuss their understanding of the structure of government. Elaborate - Tell students why the three branches are important. Explain the key terms in depth. Explain the president's power to veto or pass bills. Equate the branches to members of a family. Explain that they are separate but equal.
Assessment/Evaluation Structured Practice ApplicationAssessment - students will be expected to draw lines matching the three branches to key terms. Students will differentiate the basic roles of the three branches.
Closure: how do students summarize their learning?Small group discussion to compare and share.
